Genki Photography is Marcus Beard's home on the internet.    He explores the the world with his cameras, with destinations (so far) including Japan, Hong Kong, Iceland, Istanbul, Marrakech, and USA.  At home (the UK) he is happiest of all taking macro photographs of insects, although he's never averse to a camping trip to the Lake District from time to time to shoot the beautiful landscape.  He shoots Fuji X, Canon DSLR, and a Rolleicord V film camera.

I'm lucky to get the opportunity to travel to Japan from time to time, and it has become one of my favourite countries.  For the photographer it offers a seemingly endless variety of shooting opportunities from the beauty of ancient temples and shrines, to the wonderful friendly people and the extraordinary nature of the wild areas.  My website name 'GenkiPhotography' is inspired by my love of the energy and life of Japan and the passion I have for photography.

I've visited Hong Kong more than any other country (around 20 times so far) - always on business trips.  But hey - why let business get in the way of exploring and photographing this amazing place, and who needs sleep anyway?  There is so much to see in tiny Hong Kong, although most people see it simply as a megacity and shopping paradise.  Ancient traditional fishing villages cling on to their island homes, resisting the urban spread, and exotic wildlife thrives in many of the pockets of wild Hong Kong.

The natural world holds a huge interest for me, and it remains one of the reasons I adore photography.  Canon's extraordinary MP-E65 lens is a very special tool, allowing extreme close ups of any critter willing to stay still just millimetres from the lens.
